The attunements given in reiki one first reaches the first degree, then the second and finally the third. At the third attunement one is initiated into the master degree, not only does this mean one aquires the knowledge to give attunements,
it also means the master reiki symbol is initiated within the body of the reiki master. This master symbol allows the practitioner the energy to be able to successfully attune new practitioners.
