what are lipidologists

A lipidologist is a physician who specializes in the treatment of cholesterol and is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. Most lipidologists are members of the National Lipids Association. Visit the NLA patient website for more information too

Lipidologists always have a primary board certification in another field as well - usually Cardiology, Endocrinology, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Practice, or Neurology. Some lipidologists care for lipids patients while also practicing their primary specialty. Others focus only on caring for lipids-related problems.

Dr. Liebeskind is board certified in Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. This means she can see both adults and children with lipids (cholesterol) problems. She practiced primary care for several years at the beginning of her career. When the certification for lipidology first became available in 2006, she was one of the first diplomates. She now focuses solely on caring for patients needing help with lipids (cholesterol) issues.
